Is there a color bolder and more eye-popping than red?
When it comes to wearing the fiery hue, it’s one of those colors that instantly makes itself known in an outfit, and it’s certainly not for wallflowers trying to blend in. You typically see red used an as an accent color—a way to inject some pizazz into an otherwise colorless ensemble. Street style stars like Hailey Bieber, for one, have styled their classic jeans and a tee with a saucy little red pump
But what if we told you that red can (and should) be treated as a neutral color, to be mixed-and-matched with virtually anything. Forget mundane black or white! Red is the new universal wardrobe pillar. Allow us to explain.
According to the runways, red is a bold shade that can be surprisingly styled in a variety of ways. As a “neutral,” it doesn’t have to be restricted to a contrasting accessory. In Zankov and Lii’s recent collections—two of the freshest emerging labels of the moment—a bright red shirt was layered over baby-blue or butter-yellow long-sleeves, for more of a color-blocking twist. At both Celine and Christopher John Rogers, a red top was paired with an earthier brown trouser—making for a more subdued and grounded look.
Consider it, then, this summer’s easiest styling hack to incorporate into your wardrobe. Not only is it extremely easy to digest (pair it with anything!), but it’s also a surefire way to inject any look with instant personality—because red is always a color that gets you noticed. Why do you think both catwalk stars and A-listers are hopping on the trend? They live for the attention.
